Hypothetically: If you knew that when you had children the females turned out straight and the males gay- would you genetically engineer to ensure that all your children were female? And vice versa.

This is a tough one, I'd want them to be straight so they could enjoy having a family of their own too, plus they would be more socially accepted. However I don't believe in designer babies...but seeing as it is hypothetical, I'd go ahead and engineer genetically, get used to the fact of never having a son.
No offence.

I'd let God decide what gender I would have and then let them do as they wished.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Monday 6/13/05 - 12:02:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, i'd leave it up to nature. I really don't like the idea of designer babies. Besides, i don't have a problem with gays, so if i did have a son i'd be just as happy.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Monday 6/13/05 - 12:06:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
I wouldn't change a thing and would just hope that no matter what they are happy when they're older.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Monday 6/13/05 - 12:16:25 PM EST (GMT-5)
Wow, that'd be great, because then I could just paint the room pink with no gender worries.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Monday 6/13/05 - 12:43:28 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, I hear gay males make great mommas boys.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Monday 6/13/05 - 12:46:17 PM EST (GMT-5)
no, I would love them for who they are, no matter what.

Exactly. What sorry sad person would do something like that to their kids?
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 6/14/05 - 12:52:22 AM EST (GMT-5)
I'll let God decide whether or not I'll be having a boy or girl.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 6/14/05 - 1:01:12 AM EST (GMT-5)
Nah, I think I'd just leave it up to fate or whatever to decide whether I'd have a boy or a girl. I'd love them no matter what.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 6/14/05 - 7:29:20 PM EST (GMT-5)
Not that I'm planning on having any kids, but sexuality doesn't really matter to me.
17 yrs ago, 1 mos ago - Tuesday 6/14/05 - 7:30:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
Jesus H. Christ. What a horrible question.

And the submitter, based on posts as well as this question, seems to have REAL issues with this subject. You might want to talk to someone about it.

I would try to have a straight child, just so they wouldn't have to deal with a horrible stigma.

Ahhhh, stick it up your bum. It's only a hypothetical question.

No, I would just let nature takes it course.
17 yrs ago - Wednesday 7/27/05 - 11:00:32 PM EST (GMT-5)
i agree with inwalkedadam, i'd want a straight child more for them than for me
17 yrs ago - Wednesday 7/27/05 - 11:02:22 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd prefer a straight child, of course, because it would mean that they would face far less social stigma.
But the whole "genetic engineering" thing would just be pointless.

Nope.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Saturday 8/13/05 - 2:53:20 PM EST (GMT-5)

I didnt know being female was such punishment.

Pretty sure he meant the genetic altering there, Dog
16 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Saturday 10/1/05 - 5:49:15 AM EST (GMT-5)
I guess I'd rather have the straight female child, because there is so much discrimination against homosexuals in our society, but my child's sexual orientation wouldn't matter to me personally. I would just let nature take its course and hope for a more tolerant society when my child grows up (regardless of their sexual orientation, really).
16 yrs ago, 10 mos ago - Saturday 10/1/05 - 6:10:42 AM EST (GMT-5)
I wouldn't genetically engineer babies at all.

a society where you can choose sex and the looks of a baby is extremely wrong. God should be the only one who should decide this
