That's a hard one. Because I really really want to have kids, but if I knew they would get whatever serious disease I had, maybe it would be my responsibility to not pass it on. At least there's always adoption.

No, I have 2 bad genes i dont want to pass on so I'm not.
17 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Thursday 4/29/04 - 12:02:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
This assumes I want to reproduce, and depends on the chance of passing on the disease as well as the severeity of the disease.

*slams head into wall until falling unconcious, wakes up then repeats...*

No I wouldn't.
17 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Wednesday 5/26/04 - 8:22:56 PM EST (GMT-5)
IVF doesn't produce gametes... zygotes u mean.. or maybe I'm missing something.
To answer the question, it would depend how serious the disease was.
17 yrs ago, 5 mos ago - Wednesday 5/26/04 - 8:25:07 PM EST (GMT-5)
Depends on the kind of disease. Most likely not
17 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 8/17/04 - 12:49:58 PM EST (GMT-5)
i dunno really. i dont have any genetic diseases. at least i dont think i do.
17 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 8/17/04 - 1:06:41 PM EST (GMT-5)
Well, as long as the Mrs. didn't have the disease as well... then maybe screen her to see if she's carrying the recessive gene.
17 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 8/17/04 - 3:41:48 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, and I don't plan on reproducing anyway.
17 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 8/17/04 - 3:42:25 PM EST (GMT-5)
I'd adopt.
17 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Wednesday 8/18/04 - 12:51:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
Depends on the disease. If it was like AIDS then definantly not. I would love to have kids but not ones who have to suffer their whole life because of something I gave them. I would choose to adopt.

"If it was like AIDS then definantly not."

Umm... AIDS isn't genetic...

17 yrs ago - Monday 10/11/04 - 1:32:42 AM EST (GMT-5)
nope
17 yrs ago - Monday 10/11/04 - 1:40:00 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, I wouldn't reproduce under any circumstances.
16 yrs ago, 11 mos ago - Tuesday 11/16/04 - 6:19:51 AM EST (GMT-5)
It's doubtful I'm going to reproduce anyway, but if I felt the need for kids, I wouldn't risk it.
16 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 1/19/05 - 2:40:13 PM EST (GMT-5)
Even if I really wanted kids (I don't) then I wouldn't take the chance.
16 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 1/19/05 - 2:43:35 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, but I don't plan on doing anyway...
16 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Thursday 1/20/05 - 1:32:17 PM EST (GMT-5)
no, i dont even want to pass on some of my family traits..
16 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Thursday 1/20/05 - 1:34:45 PM EST (GMT-5)
depends on the chances of it getting passed down and how serious the illness
16 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Thursday 1/20/05 - 1:49:05 PM EST (GMT-5)
Depends on the disease.

Cancer runs in my maternal family line, but I had children...

16 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 1/26/05 - 4:17:39 PM EST (GMT-5)
I have and I did. I have one child and we both have the disease but its is not life threatening yet.
(knock on wood rap rap).
16 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Wednesday 1/26/05 - 4:22:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
I didn't know I was carring a disease untill my sister died of it in 1981 and my daughter was allready borned. It was a shock to find this out. Plus I was expossed to agent orange and other chemicals when I was in Nam. Didn't know that untill later in life. I could remember them spraying the stuff but didn't know what it was.
16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 2/10/05 - 7:43:09 PM EST (GMT-5)
No. It wouldn't be fair to my offspring and/or their children.

If I really REALLY wanted a baby, I would adopt.

16 yrs ago, 8 mos ago - Thursday 2/10/05 - 7:53:31 PM EST (GMT-5)
Depends on the disease, but probably not. I could adopt after all.
