I thought it wasn't a debate.

Not in the traditional style, but it was a forum where the candidates both answered questions on a variety of issues, and gave people an opportunity to judge the candidates on those issues...

I didn't see watch it. It doesn't really matter who won, regardless.

I heard that McCain won. I guess you'd be right.
I'd still say it didn't really matter if Obama won. We all know what they stand for now, debates are only good for seeing who's the better wordsmith

Not necessarily. Over the course of the primaries candidates tend to "adapt" their positions to suit the audience they are addressing at the time. The debates serve to nail down the candidates positions, how they arrived at their positions and to get an idea of how firmly the candidates would adhere to them.
Basically, the debates cut through all the 'campaign ad propaganda' and set the record straight...

When I need to see exactly what they stand for, I look at their voting records. Everything else is empty promises.

That's great when you have a Senator that's been in office for 25 years, but what do you look at for Obama? He's been campaigning for president for most of his Senate career...

Then I look at what he HAS voted for and take it with a grain of salt. I could rely on him just saying things instead, but none of that really means anything, and can be changed, spun, and all manner of things
you can't backtrack from a cast vote

I agree. that's why I think Obama's relative inexperience is such an important issue.

kungfullama, it sounds like you're saying you don't think Obama has enough experience to be president, and no amount of debating or talking can make up for that. No?

I don't think that ANYBODY can have enough experience to be President. It's the hardest job in the world. Nobody's really ready on Day 1. He's probably not quite as prepared as everyone else, but I honestly don't think that's as much of an issue as everyone makes it out to be. He would have plenty of advisers and cabinet members helping along the way, just like anyone else. The Presidency is really a group effort.

I wish this f*cking experience thing would die. Look at all the fantastic presidents so far. If that's what experience gives you then f*ck experience.

Obama is just rhetoric. During his time in the Senate or as an Illinois State Legislator, what has he really done? NOTHING! He made no big changes and ask how much he did for all the failing kids in his school district.
