I don't think either is to blame, the recession is due to what happened on sept 11. the fed cut the rates to help the impact and raise spending moral, gave people a reason to still spend money. so i think the recession was just prolonged to protect the people. and the government did a great job of sidetracting the issue.

I don't think the chicken little sounding, "we're in a recession, we're in a recession, we need to give away billions to corporations, we're in a recession, we're in a recession" by President Bush in early 2001 helped any...

Well right now Bush is trying to go about things to make the recession end earlier, but Tom Daschle is stopping him every step of the way. Many political analists say that it would really get the national economy going again, but God forbid people like Bush anymore. Also since the recession really started in the Clinton years it was probably because of Democrats, but you'd think with all the money we got from the Chinese we could have avoided it.

A common misconception is that political parties cause recessions. This is a buncha BS. The economy moves in waves of boom-recession-boom, etc. It's a factor inherent in our capitalist system. Politicians CAN affect them through good or bad policies, but I don't think that was the case here. ALSO: the recession was well underway before 9/11

Come on now j (notice I'm trying to stop calling you jasen), that's just looking for a way to blame Bush for the recession since there is nothing else to hang your hat on. He no more talked it down then than the Democrats are talking it down now. And progrock, I agree. People do give too much credit to the government for influencing the eceonomy. Although I would add to that that it is much easier for them to negatively effect it than positively.

I have to go with the Culann and Progrock on this one. I don't believe we can really blame a policical party for a recession. But it is funny how both parties try and pin the other to anything negative for an election win.

There are too many factors to just blame one thing or party.

Jesus, enough with the recession questions already, that is five already on this site and they are all about the same deal. If this recession is so bad then why hasn't it impacted us harder? Hell, I don't even notice it. I've had three job interviews and offers in the last month all willing to hire people so obviously the market hasn't suffered that bad for the average young man.

its all my fault.

Hey, I have a novel idea! How about We The People take some fu!@ing responsibility for ourselves? I fail to see how Democrats or Republicans could be held any more accountable for the mess that America is in. I'm 26, and in my life(that which I can remember, anyway), we've had 12 years of republicans and 10 years of democrats. I have failed to see a difference, either in the government or the people. Perhaps if we stopped looking to government and parties to solve our problems(or blame when a timely solution fails to spontaneously manifest), we could hoestly improve the condition of our lives. Our leadership is a reflection of ourselves. This is one of the basic precepts of a democracy. I would challenge the American public to stop and consider that before they attempt to lay blame.

As far as I'm concerned--it's the general public who don't understand how economics work. They freak out whenever something terrible happens, so they don't spend their money, causing a loss of jobs, and money for the government and people. If they'd continue to spend their money normally, everything would be fine. So go shopping!!

darkangel---I understand what you mean. Before I moved out, and back to the states, my father was freaking out telling me I wouldn't be able to find work b/c of the recession. Whatever. I'm doing fine on my job hunt so far. I'm seeing "Now Hiring" signs everywhere. I just went to a job interview today actually. (However, I'm working on a military base. I'm not sure if it's any different).

forgive my laziness, i'm not bothering to check everyone's posts for whether this has been stated already or not, but recessions are cyclical. it happens... it always has.

does it matter? Everyone just has to point fingers I guess.

Both. They all have a hand in these things.
