Sure. You can be friends with someone you find attractive without it getting physical. And just because your kid is gay, doesn't mean all his/her friends are.

Besides, if something did happen, at least it wouldn't end with a pregnancy.

Yea, sure just as long as nothing bad happens
11 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 12/3/10 - 12:35:58 AM EST (GMT-5)
No, because it would undoubtedly end in some sort of homosexual sin orgy.
11 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 12/3/10 - 5:31:39 AM EST (GMT-5)
yes. doesnt mean they will do anything, cause his/her friends might not all be gay .

No it would 'undoubtedly' I have stopped over at my gay friends house many times and not once has it turn in to an orgy.

Yeah i would, if things happen, well things happen sexual experimentation is part of life, it may prompt me to have 'the talk' earlier to make sure if anything did happen it was safe.

I'd let my child have sleepovers with members of either sex regardless of sexual orientation.
11 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 12/3/10 - 11:19:23 AM EST (GMT-5)
I don't know the future sexual orientation of my daughter, but sleepovers are OK in any case.

That's a tough question... At the point that my children are fully aware of their sexuality, I would be eliminating co-ed slumber parties. I guess that's kind of a tradition based on the assumption of heterosexuality, though biology still has its weight in the considerations. I wouldn't want them fooling around either way, so I guess same gender slumber parties would potentially be out if they were gay.
Still, it seems like that's eliminating *all* slumber parties, and that seems kind of harsh.
11 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 12/3/10 - 3:17:24 PM EST (GMT-5)
Sure, I don't see why not.
11 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 12/3/10 - 3:24:19 PM EST (GMT-5)
yes
11 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Friday 12/3/10 - 7:20:06 PM EST (GMT-5)
Sure. As long as the other kid isn't twice their age and also gay. Just gay fine, but no older....older could end bad...
11 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Saturday 12/4/10 - 2:41:19 PM EST (GMT-5)
Of course. Why not?

Will you concede *and* facilitate your child's having sex?

Yeah, because gay kids of the same age sleeping in the same room/bed together has never "ended bad".

I'm not sure how I would know my child's sexual orientation. And I doubt I'd end all sleep-overs just because I was worried they might be gay. That sounds more than a little paranoid to me.

No, I would dissown my child if it turned out drated up and broken like that

Are you saying age difference is not a legitimate factor for appropriately discriminating in this instance, koto?

I honestly think it depends on how old they are. If they were say 13 or 14, I may be a little cautious. Perhaps ask them to keep their door open or something.

But if they're 16 or older then frankly nothing in the world is going to stop them having sex if they want to. You're fighting a losing battle. The best thing you can do is inform them of all the risks and everything they can do to avoid these risks. It's on them at that point to decide what is right to do.
11 yrs ago, 9 mos ago - Monday 12/6/10 - 7:32:29 AM EST (GMT-5)
It depends on the maturity of the kid. I wouldn't let an immature straight kid sleep over with the opposite sex, and I wouldn't let an immature gay kid have a sleepover with someone of the same sex. And age also matters.

If it's in my house, I will choose to fight that battle. That has to do w/ my position on the issue, not whether I can win it or not. I think we should fight certain battles based on values, not whether we can win. (And in other battles, yes, we weigh the likelihood of success.) Being aware of the odds would lead me to educate re: protection and wise decision-making, but in my house, I have more control and more say...

I lived with my wife before we were married, while dating and in college. My parents supported me financially during that time, paying my rent, and other expenses not covered by scholarships. When they were in town overnight, they'd sleep on our fold-out couch. But when we visited them, we slept in separate rooms. I see context in all of that, not inconsistency.

i really don't understand this point of view - - what would be so bad about them doin' each other? the only reasonable argument would be pregnancy, but that obviously isn't an issue here.

Do your parents condone and facilitate opportunities for you to have sex, kaiser?
