There is chemical castration. I'm not sure if it works on women though (or if it's even given to female offenders for that matter)

IF they started castrating rapists, then yes, they should do so for both sexes for the sake of equality, but really, when was the last time you heard of a female rapist that committed sexual assault out of her own sexual frustration, rather than some ulterior reason? You could castrate a female rapist, but chances are they didn't rape somebody for the same reasons the average male rapist did.

They don't castrate men for being rapists in the US. It is done in other countries, including India.

Just because a sex crime is committed by a woman does not make it any better. It is despicable no matter which gender is responsible for it. I'm not sure how they could go about removing the desire though..couldn't we just remove them from society in general?

There is never a plausible reason for rape.
Typically, rape has very little to do with sexual desire, but rather deep-seated issues, often stemming from a desire to dominate or control or cause pain. It is also more often due to mental illness (duh) than pleasure-seeking. Generally, it doesn't even have to do with the victim specifically.
As a victim of rape, I do think it is completely just to remove a person's ability to commit such a heinous act ever again. In the case of child molesters, they should be reduced to a urinary catheter.
