My sister's boy friend did that for a little while. He did the technical kind and the artsy kind. It was one of his many jobs.

A guy I used to work with said his dad did it for a living.

But me, I don't know anyone who does.

He made the gates to somewhere famous, but I forget where.

Not exclusively - my mom makes these stained glass pieces, all kinds of stained glass stuff and she welds metal on them and she also makes some kind of horseshoe wreath that she welds and sells a ton of around Christmas. But that's all just supplemental income mostly.

My grandpa is the one who taught her how to weld, he's retired now but he was in construction his whole career so at one time he may have also but I think he was more of a carpenter then foreman, not a welder.

the way this question is worded and also some of the comments make it sound like welding is some lost art or trade of the past like blacksmithing or something.
I know alot of people who weld, my best friend for one.

Maybe it's it seems strange to me because of where I live. I live in Warren, PA. Warren could be discribed as a blue coler town a few hours north of Pitsburgh, the "Steel" city.

Few people know this, but the Gateway arch in St. louis, MO was originaly manufactured here in Warren. I personlay know someone who worked on it.

I know several people who make a living from their ability to weld. It's quite common here.

blacksmithing is hardly a lost art.

I know a bunch of smiths who work multiple metals including iron. (most of them also do blades and that is why I know them)

I'm from Allentown, PA and I also know welders.

Hell I can weld and solder myself.

PA is very in touch with the iron and steel workers still even if our steel mills are long since silent.

Yeah, my brother.

Well, I live in Florida, and I'm not sure if that's common here. Perhaps people don't want to wear a full protective body suit and hold a flaming stick of death all day while it's about 85 degrees for more than half of the year.

Umm, the welders where I work.
