my word yes- currently, we arent even allowed to eat(or drink) anywhere in the school but the lunchroom- which holds about 400 students at a time, thing is- we have 1500 students and only a 50 minute lunch- there isnt enough time or space for us all to be in there. and if we eat in the hall ways, we risk getting suspended(hasnt happened to me yet, but my friend got 3 days for "defiance" because he was eating in a hallway and a weeks detention for standing beside another friend who was peeling an orange because she didnt want to throw the peelings on the ground when she went outside to eat) logic there? can any one find it?

What do you mean by 'strict'? You need to elaborate on this.

My high school wasn't strict in the least.

16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Sunday 4/9/06 - 1:28:47 PM EST (GMT-5)
No, if anything my school was too lax. School children seem to be getting away with much more than when I was back at school
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Sunday 4/9/06 - 1:32:02 PM EST (GMT-5)
Strict as in punishing people for fighting, drugs, dressing like a hooker, et cetera, then there is no such thing as too strict. Strict in the sense that gwendolyn is talking about, that sounds a bit much.
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 4/11/06 - 6:21:48 AM EST (GMT-5)
I meant strict as in banning things that used to be ok. Like around here, hair color, piercings, things like that have suddenly been banned.
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 4/11/06 - 6:26:09 AM EST (GMT-5)
Hell no, they're getting far too lax.
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 4/11/06 - 6:26:40 AM EST (GMT-5)
i think its stupid that they are banned. dying my hair pink and having loads of piercings doesnt mean im not going to do the work.....it sucks, im not allowed any more piercings. the teachers always taking my nosestuds off me!

20 years ago you would have been sent home if you hair was too long, or your skirt was too short.

16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Thursday 4/13/06 - 1:48:07 AM EST (GMT-5)
We're not allowed to run around at break or lunch here... Once in assembly they told us our playground was getting too noisy. All we're allowed to do is stand around and talk.
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Sunday 4/23/06 - 3:58:44 PM EST (GMT-5)
totally.
and they giver out WAY too much homework, according to our PSE/Citizenship teacher, if you do every bit of homework in your school years it will tka eup a year of your life, which sucks
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Sunday 4/23/06 - 4:03:10 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yeah.
Things like students getting in trouble for hugging and whatnot is ridiculous.
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Sunday 4/23/06 - 4:06:21 PM EST (GMT-5)
^off topic i no, but still. and ye at my school i spiked my hair (it was only an inch long too) and they made me wash it out or i woulda got suspended, its totally wanktarded. we cant have any piercings apart from one small stud in each ear. ties have to be tight around your neck and longer than your belly button, all buttons on shirts done up and shirts tucked in properly. no eating anywhere apart from outside, hair cant be longer than your forehead, shoes cant have anything on them (white laces, large tongues, different logos etc). its fxcking stupid

Schools are nowhere near as strict as when I went. Talk about pandering to bullies and lazy butts.

Hello?

It's SCHOOL. You go there to learn. Not party, have fashion shows, or spend all your time socializing.

It's supposed to be strict. It's f*cking school!

Do your four years, then you can get out and do/wear whatever you want.

they are getting stricter in my school it like while we were having an art show they would not let us order pizza even though it was after school and the show was 2-8
16 yrs ago, 2 mos ago - Tuesday 4/25/06 - 10:00:00 PM EST (GMT-5)
Yes. That is why I dropped out. I kept getting detention because they wanted to punish me for having an IQ of 187.

i agree.

also, teachers have no power anymore. they cannot DO anything to discipline kids BUT put them on detention. that's not working.

if anything, schools need to get more strict.

Hmm...maybe I wouldn't call this strict, but a bit too nosy...at my school the principal went to find students on MySpace, then printed their profiles and mailed them home. Our personal lives aren't the administration's business.

Wow, that sucks.

Yeah, they can be strict I guess at times, but on a whole, it's not so bad. I still hate school though...

Exactly, I couldn't have put it better.

And besides that, I don't think they're strict enough. At least my school isn't. They have dress codes but don't enforce them, along with a lot of other rules they preach but don't enforce. It's annoying.

And then everyone complains when they get a detention on that rare time when the rules are enforced.

we have the same problem but we have 30 minutes which is ridiculous. plus, if school is getting stricter, its doing it in the wrong direction. food isn't the problem, idiotic ADD-infatuated kids are.
"Oh look at me i'm so special i can't concentrate on anything for very long and woah there goes a balloon." The schools in America are so blimming relaxed that nothing is accomplished and no one is actually punished in the way they deserve.

Sure, but first, tell me what the state of cleanliness of your schools other eating areas was before the restriction of food to the cafeteria. And also tell me what your friend would have gotten if he or she had simply said, "Yes, sir" or "Yes, ma'am" when directed to stop eating outside the cafeteria rather than becoming defiant. I don't care if it's just chewing gum; if someone tells you to spit it out and you don't, the problem isn't the gum; it's the defiance.
School administrators and staff don't make up rules just for the Hell of it. They make rules because there's a need for them. Particularly at the high school level, students think they know everything in the whole f*cking world once they've made it to 3rd base with somebody at a party, but there's no connection between their actions and consequences still. *That's* why rules seem random and nonsensical.

No way, if anything most public schools (in the U.S) are too lenient. I can't say anything about schools around the world though.
