sense of security? eh? they don't shoot lasers (unfortunately), they just let you talk to your friends. the most my cell phone gives me is a sense of connectedness. i mean really, the thing is no bigger than my hand when i lay it flat so i can't exactly expect to beat someone over the head with it effectively and it doesn't spray mace from the speaker or anything so i must say...my sense of security was about the furthest thing from my mind when i bought the thing.

Ok, I guess you guys don't live near/travel through the country. There ARE places where there is no service, usually it's in the middle of nowhere, and right where your car tends to break down. Or are there absolutely NO dead zones in the US?

I had that motorola startec that's shown and THAT was a false sense of security. Worst phone ever. But, now I have a good one, I'm glad. BUT when my battery died (car) a few weeks ago, it was the one day I didn't have my phone with me...stupid me.

All I know is I sure wish I had one when my car broke down on the highway 15 hours from home at 12 AM with trucks whizzing by me at 80 mph!

i hate cell phones for the sole purpose of dumb teenage gurls driving and talkin on them, and of course...... the soccer moms who have 4-6 kinds in the car going 70mph whilst chatting away on cellphone running stop signs and redlights. other than that.. they are fine. im glad i dont have one anymore tho. :/

I think a cell phone can be very useful in giving protection, you are usually always able to call for help, I agree with camle, they are better than having nothing, besides, there aren't to, to many dead zones...
