Excuses explanations for why something bad did, or something good didn't, happen. Reasons are objective explanations for something happening.

they are pretty much the same thing. When giving my parents a reason why I was late... or why something done it was labeled as an excuse. :)

excuses are something that people like to tell when they want to excuse themselves from trouble, or anything bad that they did. an excuse is a reason too though. it's like a subword. a reason is just an explanation of something.

Both can be real, but an excuse is to duck responsibility for some action; a reason will prepare you to stop making the same mistake in the future.
