You can always give out those less popular awards in an awards ceremony prior to the main ceremony.
I am not a fan of awards shows, tbh, and I seldom every watch them.
I've only watched the Oscars once since 2005 and that's to see Leonardo DiCaprio win for The Revenant. I quit watching years ago because they didn't give him the Oscar for The Aviator for the 2004 movie season.
I just watch short clips of people accepting and that's it - but that's because it's on at 2am or something.
I like all the tech awards and stuff. A lot of those peeps' conttibution to the industry woild be largely unrecognised by some of the mainstream audiences without the Oscars Imho.

Exactly.
And no, Rag - it's not like the Grammys where there's like a hundred categories and a lot of them (spoken word album and all that) are given out in the days before the big ceremony. The only Academy Awards (besides scitech stuff that's more "general contribution to the art of moviemaking" than awards to individual films) are the ones given at the big ceremony that's on TV.
Noldor - attitudes like yours are part of why they pepper in things like Best Supporting Actor near the beginning/middle of the show. That's one of the first awards given (if not THE first).
If you're so against seeing the efforts of makeup artists, costume and set designers, sound editors, etc. recognized, go to the bathroom or get more popcorn during those parts, I guess.
