Well having BMI greater than 30 is one of the primary ways that obesity is diagnosed. And well there may be some flaws in this (the highly muscular athlete) overall BMI certainly is strongly correlated with body-fat percentage.

What? Mexicans love their tacos and enchiladas. Trust me, I know.
That, and words like gordo in spanish have usually a positive meaning. Like big and strong.(Well, thats what my teacher said, and she was raised in Mexico.)
