100 words almost everyone mispronounces
An interesting list from a book... which I suppose you have to buy to figure out how to say them properly.

Some of those words really make me worry if people are mispronouncing them.

You mean I've been saying "uranus" wrong?
Is it pronounced "yur-rinis" or "yer-aynis"?

How is "long-lived" pronounced??? Like the two words separately, right?

we're not really mispronouncing them- - the book is about their origins and talks about how quickly the standard pronunication has changed

I'd guess the version in the book would have fully pronounced 'ed' on the end like 'aged' - - just a guess

They really should find a new title then

For long-lived, I was thinking more along the lines of a long i sound. Not saying the -ed.

Long-lived would rhyme with "deprived". Not sound like "livid".

dunno

the "-lived" part of "long-lived" is pronounced like the word "livid"

the more you know

Aw, my idea failed. Oh well.

Thanks, GI Joe!

I'm going to continue pronouncing it long-lived, simply because the word "lived" is not pronounced "livid" and the word "long-lived" is a conjunction using that word.

How do you mispronounce Asphalt? it's sounds like Asfault, right?
Sunday 8/16/09 - 8:37:33 PM
Unless you pronounce it 'ashfelt.'

But this is clearly just a list of how words were once pronounced. Pronunciations change.

So how does one mispronounce Kudos? You have to throw in random noises to get that one wrong, don't you?

Maybe if you try to say it while eating a PB sammich? That's the only way I can think of.
