100 mpg Homemade Car

Is that thing safe?

Um... Hello? Im reality, have we met?

This thing wouldnt survive a crash with a new york pothole, much less come anywhere near passing federal safety standards! Any moron can build a paper car that goes forever, how bout one thats actually PRACTICAL!!

It looks like fun...but I think walking on a highway is marginally safer.

wow this is all good and fine till a semi can't see him in front of him and plows over him going 70 mph.

This kind of car is perfect for cities. People who live in cities all drive big powerful gas-guzzling cars but never go upwards of about 40mph. Keep your big cars for long journeys or family trips, but cars like this (along with electric cars) are perfect for commuters!

But yeah, ok, make it a bit prettier....

I would drive something like this back and forth to work, then again I am only 5 miles from work.

I would drive it.

To me it looks safer than a bike, and I ride a bike A LOT.
So yeah, I'd drive it.

I wish more people would research more fuel effecient vehicles like this guy! Two Thumbs up.

If he could make it as safe as the big cars, or finds a way to ride it in the bike lane, I say thumbs up!

Think how much money you could save on petrol! (gas, for you americans who thought it neccecary to change the word ever though it was fine as it was. i mean, come on, a gas is a vapour... so petrol that had been evaporated would have to be "gas gas")

but thte fact is that 60-70 mpg is possible in cars today, but oil has such a hold in politics that we just don't see many. Instead people push suvs.

Gas is short for 'gasoline', fool. Just like petrol is short for 'petroleum'.

It does not mean gas as in "stupid rants like this are about as useful as passing gas."

I live more than 30 miles from my job and driving 50mph the whole way would really suck. The speed limit on the main road I take, that covers about 75% of the trip, is 65-70mph. I would have to get up earlier to get there on time....

yeah, nice one manorrd - shut that damn european up! As for the car I would say it is safe, actually the same people that held the spacecraft competition a while back with Paul Allen are holding another one for 100mpg cars
